A ameaça de desmatamento das florestas tropicais da Costa Rica inspirou metalheads a se unirem pela proteção do ecossistema.
Em 2022, o baterista do Megadeth Dirk Verbeuren e o músico-ativista Sylvain Demercastel fundaram a organização sem fins lucrativos SAVAGE LANDS (501(c)). Desde então, seus esforços já salvaram 100 000 pés quadrados de florestas, e toda a renda do álbum de estreia «Army of the Trees» é destinada ao plantio de árvores, à criação de reservas e de «zonas verdes». Em parceria com o Instituto Jane Goodall e líderes da cena metal, o projeto prova: a música pesada pode mudar o mundo.
O álbum «Army of the Trees» une estrelas do metal em um ecossistema de som intransigente. Na faixa «The Last Howl», o vocal de John Tardy (Obituary) se entrelaça com solos virtuosos de Andreas Kisser (Sepultura). Kai Uwe Faust (Heilung) preenche «Black Rock Heart» com o espírito místico do black-n-roll, enquanto Maria Franz (Heilung) paira sobre a balada melancólica «No Remedy» com seu vocal etéreo. Os favoritos do Eurovision Lord of the Lost adicionam glam sangrento a «Out of Breath», e Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) reina em «Ruling Queen», passando de vocais limpos a um rugido leonino. A faixa-título, gravada com participação de Julien Truchan (Benighted) e titãs franceses do metal, soa como um grito de batalha: «É hora de tomar posição!»
